Skate culture has long cultivated a unique and stylish aesthetic, and that style has been so seamlessly co-opted into the mainstream that sometimes it’s easy to forget the seminal and influential link between boarding, fashion, and art. Tonight’s party is a reminder of the enduring vitality of the skate scene with eye-popping work by 17 artists including posters, photos, and videos inspired by skateboarding. Pick up a fresh piece of art and then hop over to the adjacent Trylon Microcinema for the premiere of sick skate video Mogazelle. There’s sure to be somewhere to stash your board, so ride on in!

FRIDAY DECEMBER 30TH
The Money Shot 2011
@ Turf Club
1601 University Ave.
St. Paul
9 p.m. / +21 / $8
It’s appropriate that two of the most prolific photographic chroniclers of the Twin Cities music scene would present an overview of their 2011 work at a music venue accompanied by some great local acts. Erik Hess and Stacy Schwartz are powerhouses of local music photo journalism, both with a unique ability to capture the ‘you were there’ essence of a great performance – be it a sweaty indie rock show or a grand art-concept concert. Beyond the opportunity to see (and buy) framed prints of some of Erik and Stacy’s best work, you can take in music by local bands Iguano (featuring members of Pink Mink and Revolver Modele), Krudder, Wizards are Real, Crescent Moon is in Big Trouble, and DJ’s Lady Heat. If you’re feeling adventurous order bartender Joshua James' special “Money Shot” to celebrate the evening. Take advantage of the chance to see the work of these great photo artists live and in person and relive all the musical adventures of 2011!

Ring it all in with Mr. Serious with help from opening acts Sexcat and Koo Koo Kanga Roo.
