THURSDAY OCTOBER 28TH

Scott Seekins: The Changing of the Suits

@ Nick & Eddie
1612 Harmon Pl
Minneapolis

9 p.m. / 21+ / Free

When Seekins changed from his summer whites to his winter blacks, we know snow is just around the corner. Our own personal artsy groundhog of sorts, the recognizable, roving art icon has been suiting up in signature style for as long as we can remember and probably beyond. Head down to Neddies this evening to rub elbows with Scott, take a jaunt up to his studio above the restaurant to peep his work, have a few drinks and get down to some live music. Bonus: Dress up like Seekins and you may just win free dinner and drinks if you're costume is up to snuff!

THURSDAY OCTOBER 28TH

Pink Mink Dance Party

@ Club Jager
923 Washington Ave N
Minneapolis

10 p.m. / 21+ / Free

Club Jager is already the perfect spot for a ridiculously spooky night. Those high ceilings, that fireplace, the way it kind of looks like a medieval church turned bar...and you can bet that if Pink Mink is hosting a dance night, it’s going to be a party lively enough to wake the dead. Bring your scary face and get ready to shake it!

FRIDAY ART PICK: MICHAEL THOMSEN

What's l'etoile looking at this week?

When the spooky season comes around, there are a few artists we hold close to our art-hearts, and local sculptor Michael Thomsen is at the top of that list. His large scale, impeccably constructed mixed media pieces draw the viewer into a dark, carnivalesque dream world where secrets, mysteries and eccentricities abound. Behind each flea market bauble, antique accoutrement and quirky found object lies a story; a piece of Thomsen's childhood here or a hidden flask compartment there (often filled with whiskey). To look upon Thomsen's art is a detailed, nostalgic and magical journey that one can spend hours traversing. Want to check out Michael's art in a less virtual setting? Head to the Rogue Buddha this Friday (see listing below) for Nicholas Harper's Masquerade and take a jaunt into the pocket gallery where Thomsen has a permanent installation. And ask us to point him out - to hear him talk about each piece is a real treat. We'll be bartending!

FRIDAY OCTOBER 29TH

Masquerade: Work by Nicholas Harper

@ Rogue Buddha Gallery
357 13th Ave NE
Minneapolis

7 p.m. to Midnight / Free

It's no secret that the Buddha is one of our all-time favorite local galleries! We love the ambiance and the curatorial cohesiveness, and we have profound respect and admiration for the creative genius that is gallery owner/artist Nicholas Harper. Tonight, join l'etoile and Mr. Harper as we co-present his most recent body of work: Masquerade. This surreal collection pulls together everything we adore about Harper's work; striking, elegant portraiture, dark yet romantic sensibilities and a perfectionist's immaculate brushstroke. Experience his signature long-necked ladies and moody scenes set to the apt back drop of candlelight and gothic decor with atmospheric tunes courtesy of the one and only Danny Sigelman. Decadent costumes and secret identities are encouraged!

Okay, so it isn’t that difficult to guess what local band E.L.nO. is dressing as for Halloween; nobody covers E.L.O.’s "Mr. Blue Sky" better. But Solid Gold? The glitter-pop quintet will be channeling quintessential brit popsters, Oasis. See both tributes Friday at Lee’s Liquor Lounge (or if you can’t make it, Saturday at Brit’s Pub). Or get spooked in St. Paul, courtesy of the 651. KS95 (yeah, we know, we know) actually has everything covered and then some with a website dedicated to all things Halloween. Still don’t have a costume? Shame on you! Good thing our girl Jahna’s got you
covered (and fashionably so!) with her Vita.mn Costume Guide. Here is a collection of costumes we hope you haven’t already purchased - thanks to City Pages for the cackles! Happy Haunting!

SUNDAY MUSIC PICK: THE HAUNTED BICYCLE

This Halloween tune into 89.3 The Current at 9pm for The Current Presents, featuring the literary madness of local punk poet Paul D. Dickinson and arts journalist Gregory Scott. The two have crafted a terrifying (and surely hilarious) tale involving an evil bicycle that haunts the West Bank. Interspersed with rockin' tuneage (we hear Blue Oyster Cult will be involved), this week's edition of The Current Presents ought to be the perfect thing to have on in the background as you smear fake blood all over yourself for whatever Halloween antics you've got up your sleeve.

To listen to The Haunted Bicycle live, tune in to 89.3 the Current on Sunday, October 31st at 9pm.

A visual feast of colorful "monster" themed art by fantastic artists from near and far awaits at the Northeast spot, along with spooky refreshments, tunes from Heizerbaum, a costume contest and more. SUNDAY OCTOBER 31ST

First Avenue's Halloween Party/Monster Mash

@ First Avenue
701 First Avenue
Minneapolis

8 p.m. / $5 advance, $10 door with costume, $15 door without

And for those brave souls who DO want to get potentially groped and/or puked on, there is always First Avenue. For many a Halloween, the Ave has been the place to go to gawk at the most outrageous costumes in the Twin Cities, and from what we’ve heard about this year’s party, that’s not about to change. Ian Rans of MCN’s “Drinking with Ian” is yet again this year’s host, and the First Avenue DJs will be back to keep you moving and grooving. Do yourself a favor and wear a costume. Faux pas doesn’t look good on anyone (plus, admission is cheaper for the costumed). Cross over to the Entry for the fourth annual Monster Mash, where you can dance all night long (in costume, of course) to a hit parade of rock n’ roll and rhythm and blues oldies.
