Weekend What's What 4/1-4/6

HOP TO IT!

We're officially putting our jackets into storage! Spring has sprung and at this rate we'll be complaining that it's too hot before you know it. Such is life. Easter weekend includes a rousing round of late night parties, saucy dance jams, live tuneage and delightful art to get you hoppin'. And while you may be too old to hunt for Easter eggs, you're certainly of age to seek out all the hidden gems the Twin Cities holds for you. We do, however, give you a free pass to eat as much candy as you'd like.

FRIDAY APRIL 2ND

Patterns Plants & Animals: New Work by Tynan Kerr + Andie Mazorol

@ Rogue Buddha Gallery
357 13th Ave NE
Minneapolis

7-11pm / Free

If the characters in the collaborative show, Patterns Plants and Animals look familiar to you, it’s because they are. A hodgepodge of recycled pop cult references and historical emblems are brought to life inside homemade utopias and mystical framings. The pieces in local artists Tynan Kerr and Andie Mazorol’s latest collaborative exhibit are enigmatic - to say the least. Described as “intimate conversations” between two close friends, their joint works follow no pre-planned direction and - much like a real conversation - get lost in each other’s thoughts. Recent recipients of the Jerome Fellowship for Emerging Artists, the innovative duo are more than just peeps to watch, but community-oriented artists whose sweet mural work can be found on the walls of the 331 Club. The duo has also shown at hot local galleries like Fox Tax, Art of This and the now defunct Sellout Gallery. Join the artists and guest curator Emma Berg of mplsart.com and the Rogue Buddha Gallery for tonight’s visually stunning opening reception. Runs through May 1st.

We're especially excited to see what Bryant Locher has in store, as this is the first time he's shown paintings in a couple of years, instead focusing on creating innovative lighting design for the band Solid Gold and other projects. Tonight's opening at Spot Art will also feature live music by David Harland at 9pm and henna tattoo art by Judy Ostrowski.

Jacob Kassay, Paolo Arao, Abbey Williams

@ Franklin Art Works
1021 East Franklin Avenue
Minneapolis

7pm-9pm/free

Three New York artists open solo shows tonight at Franklin Art Works that will dazzle and impress. In the main gallery, Jacob Kassay’s silver-plated paintings and 16mm film employ innovative techniques. The process his canvases go through while turning silver causes the canvas to burn, creating a cool visual effect. From here his solo show goes to Paris, Italy, and Brussels, so see it state-side while you can! Paolo Arao’s Between the Lights features charcoal drawings of concert crowds in the Project Space, while Abbey Williams’ Three Graces shows in the Video Gallery. Three videos depict the artist posing as famous figures in pop culture and historical paintings. Through May 22.
