Hot Holiday!

l'etoile staff photog, Stephen Stephens, captured the awesomeness that was last Friday's HOT HOLIDAY party at Jetset. The l'etoile crew was out in force, along with a grip of sassy gays, which made for quite a fashionable spectacle. With snow on the ground and wind chills hitting negative double digits, this Hot Holiday was greatly appreciated! The special soiree was hosted by l'etoile's own staff designer Chris Larson and had festive music supplied by DJ Soviet Panda.

Merry Krishnas @ Fox Tax

"Currently teaching in Decatur, Illinois with a permanent home in Ely, Minnesota, artist Andy Messerschmidt came to Minneapolis to construct an exhibition that challenged traditional assumptions of art. Housing Andy's modern-day collaged shrines/altars, the Gallery at Fox Tax became a church of the aesthetic. This exhibit is Andy's first solo exhibit in Minneapolis." -www.mplsart.com

The Dead Hate the Living Party @ Clubhouse Jager

In spite of the fact that no actual zombies were sighted, The Dead Hate the Living at Clubhouse Jager shaped up to be the premiere Halloween event in Minneapolis. Music was deftly handled by Attitude City while hosting was well encompassed by Mark Mallman. Besides having a haunted basement lounge (created by Di Medlock and Cassie Hanson) and cool new videos (by Clement Shimizu of Alphasuede), the party had a photo booth styled by l'étoile and executed by (your favorite) Digital Crush. Of course, DC spared no expense and unleashed an arsenal of high-tech photo equipment on a crowd of costumed hedonists. With a little help from Nick Marshall of Marshall Photography, the results were downright chilling.

Sound Unseen Party @ The Aloft Hotel

After screening the film Low: You May Need a Murderer featuring the local band Low, the Sound Unseen Film Festival hosted a party in the swank, colorful and brand new reception space at the Aloft Hotel in downtown Minneapolis. The night's entertainment menu included dance-pop band The Battle Royale, the synth electro stylings of UltraChorus and old school jams from DJ Real Talk Radio.

Fall Fashion Weekend Recap 2008

Check back this week for recaps from our writers and more pictures by Digital Crush!

THUNDERBALL
@ The Annex 9/20

Sprouting in northeast Minneapolis between the Red Stag Supper Club and City Salvage, the Annex is a semi-finished, semi-vacant space with a huge, metal and glass chandelier, a backlit Art Deco bar, a cement floor and an exposed wood ceiling. It's vintage flavor made it a perfect place for "Thunderball: An Evening of James Bond," the flagship party for MNfashion's Fall Fashion Weekend 2008 and a celebration of all things Bond through fashion, music and film.

Local bands Revolver, Bella Koshka, and Mercurial Rage performed new interpretations of iconic Bond tunes. Local fashion-forward collective, Eclecticoiffeur, styled models after Bond girls to match the Bond songs chosen by the bands.

Rounding out the artistic triumvirate, Digital Crush helped hand-craft 3 short films just for the event (shown at the link below). Each was inspired by a different Bond film intro sequence and was shot in August at Seventhsin Studios in Minneapolis. Check out page 4 at the link below for stills from the video shoot.

But bar close wasn't the end of the evening - the mod masses made more mayhem, marching up the nearby stairs to Tucker's swank pad. There, they had all the ingredients needed for a great time at 4 am: dudes with skateboards on a half-pipe, floods of red lighting, Tendercakes DJ's, buckets of cheap booze, and Robocop playing on a big screen. -Stephen Stephens
