Minneapolis

8 – 10 p.m. / 21+ / $20

You may remember our “cool link” feature a few months back on the Naked Girls Reading series soon-to-be hosted in our own Minneapolis. Well, the wait is over; we now can boast over our own NGR chapter. Tonight marks the MPLS premiere of the lady-fronted reading club raved about in cities all over the nation. Created by international showgirl, Michelle L’Amour, the literary series just might be the most provocative you’ll ever witness--and the most progressive. The series features five local lady performers reading their favorite selections live in front of an audience. Oh, and did we mention the readers will be completely nude? Equal parts “ooh la la” and feminist, tonight’s first installment, Tales of Two Cities, will be hosted by local burlesque celeb, Sweetpea, and showcases stories about or authors from our two cities, Minneapolis & St. Paul. Oh yes, reading just got sexier.

Mayda "Tusks in Furs" Release Party

@ The Cedar
416 Cedar Ave S
Minneapolis

8 p.m. / $8 adv or $10 door

If ever the phrase "good things come in small packages" were to apply to something, it would definitely apply to the explosive presence that is Mayda Miller. The powerhouse performer will own the stage at the Cedar Cultural Center this Saturday, as she releases her brand new album "Tusks in Furs" with contributions from a number of influential players including Michael Bland (Prince NPG, Soul Asylum), Tommy Barbarella (Prince, Johnny Lang), Mike Scott (Justin Timberlake), and many more. It makes sense that a performer as charismatic and engrossing as Mayda attracts such names; she's not only a keen songwriter, but her voice and stage presence are magnetic--a true star in the making. Saturday's release party includes opening sets from raw power punk duo Birthday Suits and hip hop/r&b seductress, Maria Isa. An eclectic and exciting show if there ever was one--not to be missed!
